Fresh leaks suggest that Xiaomi’s next flagship lineup could bring significant camera improvements. Even as the Xiaomi 17 series prepares for its India launch next week after debuting in China last year, early details about the upcoming Xiaomi 18 series have already surfaced online.
According to a post shared by tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo, the Xiaomi 18 series may introduce a dual 200-megapixel rear camera system. The engineering prototype of the standard Xiaomi 18 model is said to feature a 200-megapixel primary camera with a large 1/1.28-inch sensor.
In another update, the tipster mentioned that the “large screen versions” could come equipped with a 200-megapixel main camera and a 200-megapixel periscope telephoto lens. The prototype is reportedly testing either a 200-megapixel 1/1.3-inch OV52B sensor or a 200-megapixel 1/1.12-inch OVB0D LOFIC sensor. While the devices were not named directly, comments on the post indicate that these models could be the 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max.
If these details prove accurate, the 18 lineup would mark a major camera overhaul compared to the Xiaomi 17 series. The current Xiaomi 17, 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max feature a triple rear camera setup comprising a 50-megapixel primary sensor, a 50-megapixel telephoto lens and another 50-megapixel sensor. On the front, they offer a 50-megapixel camera for selfies and video calls.
Earlier rumours have also suggested that the Xiaomi 18 could sport a 6.4-inch display. The new series is expected to launch in September and may be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 6 series SoC.
More details about the Xiaomi 18 lineup are likely to emerge in the coming months as the company moves closer to its official announcement.
