Xiaomi is preparing to launch its premium smartphone in China on December 25, positioning it as the most advanced model in the Xiaomi 17 line-up. The Xiaomi 17 Ultra will arrive alongside the Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. Ahead of the launch, the company has confirmed several key features, highlighting a strong focus on photography and performance.
The Xiaomi 17 Ultra will feature a Leica tuned triple rear camera system housed in a circular camera module. A standout addition is a physical rotary zoom ring built around the camera module, offering tactile control similar to a DSLR camera. The device will be branded as Xiaomi 17 Ultra by Leica, with the Leica red dot logo visible on the rear panel in at least 1 colour option.
Leaks suggest the phone will drop to a 3-camera setup compared to its predecessor. It is expected to include a periscope telephoto camera with continuous optical zoom from 3x to 4.3x, reportedly using Samsung HPE sensor technology. The main camera is said to feature a customised 50MP 1-inch OmniVision sensor with optical image stabilisation. The ultrawide camera is also expected to be a 50MP unit based on Samsung JN5 sensor. Camera features may include Leica lenses, laser autofocus, a colour spectrum sensor and support for video recording up to 8K.
On the front, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra is rumoured to sport a 6.82-inch LTPO AMOLED display with a 1440 x 3200-pixel resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate and peak brightness of up to 3500 nits. Protection is expected to come from Xiaomi Shield Glass 2.0, along with HDR10+, HDR Vivid and Dolby Vision support. Powering the device is likely to be the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, paired with up to 16GB RAM and up to 1TB storage. The phone may also pack a 6800mAh battery with 100W wired charging, 80W wireless charging and reverse wireless charging, along with IP68 rated protection, stereo speakers, an ultrasonic in display fingerprint sensor and two-way satellite communication.
