Xiaomi 17 Ultra camera specs and features leaked ahead of December launch

Details of Xiaomi’s upcoming flagship, the 17 Ultra, have surfaced ahead of its official release, revealing an impressive Leica-tuned camera setup and potential early launch plans for December 2025 in China.

Certification filings for models 25128PNA1C and 2512BPNDAC suggest Xiaomi may release two versions of the 17 Ultra, possibly earlier than expected. Leaks from Weibo and X, including reports by Kartikey Singh and Digital Chat Station, show that Xiaomi is testing prototypes with either a triple or quad rear camera system.

The triple-camera version reportedly includes a 200MP telephoto sensor with a continuous optical zoom system, similar to Sony’s Xperia 1 VII. Meanwhile, the higher-end quad-camera model is expected to feature one 200MP sensor and three 50MP sensors, along with advanced periscope optics. The main sensor is described as “extremely dynamic,” while the additional cameras use conventional lenses.

Xiaomi’s partnership with Leica continues to shape the 17 Ultra’s imaging capabilities. Leaks also point to a modular magnetic optical system, like the prototype showcased at MWC 2025. This setup could allow users to attach an external 100MP Micro Four Thirds sensor with a 35mm lens magnetically, hinting at possible clip-on lens support for future Ultra models.

Certification documents and leaks suggest the Chinese launch could happen in December 2025, with a global release expected around Mobile World Congress 2026. Global models 2512BPNDAG and 25128PNA1G are likely to feature satellite connectivity and a 50MP front camera, complementing the advanced rear camera system.

With these developments, Xiaomi 17 Ultra is shaping up to be a camera-focused flagship, combining high-resolution sensors, periscope technology, and modular imaging capabilities for enthusiasts and photography professionals.
