Xiaomi 17 debuts in India with Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and Leica triple camera system

India’s premium smartphone segment has received a new addition as Xiaomi launches the Xiaomi 17 in the country alongside the Xiaomi 17 Ultra. The flagship device is powered by the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset built on a 3nm architecture and features a Leica-backed triple rear camera system.

The Xiaomi 17 starts at Rs 89,999 for the 12GB + 256GB variant, while the 12GB + 512GB version is priced at Rs 99,999. The smartphone will be available in black, blue and green colour options. Sales will begin on March 13 through the Xiaomi India website, Amazon and select retail outlets.

As part of an Early Bird offer running from March 13 to March 17, buyers can purchase the 512GB variant at the price of the 256GB model. The company is also offering a complimentary Phone Damage Protection Plan worth Rs 9,999 with the purchase.

The Xiaomi 17 features a 6.3-inch CrystalRes OLED display with a resolution of 2,656 x 1,220 pixels and an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz. The screen supports a 300Hz touch sampling rate and up to 3,500 nits peak brightness. It offers DCI-P3 colour coverage, 12-bit colour depth, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision support, along with TÜV Rheinland certifications for low blue light, flicker-free operation and circadian-friendly viewing.

The device runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor paired with an Adreno GPU and Qualcomm AI Engine. It supports up to 16GB LPDDR5x RAM and up to 512GB UFS 4.1 storage. Xiaomi has also added a 3D IceLoop cooling system to manage heat during intensive tasks. The smartphone operates on Android 16-based Xiaomi HyperOS 3 and includes the HyperAI suite with features such as AI Writing, AI Speech Recognition, AI Interpreter, AI Search, AI Dynamic Wallpapers and Circle to Search with Google Gemini.

For photography, the Xiaomi 17 includes a Leica-tuned triple rear camera setup with Summilux lenses. It consists of a 50MP primary camera with a 1/1.31-inch Light Fusion 950 sensor and optical image stabilisation, a 50MP telephoto lens with a 60mm focal length and OIS, and a 50MP ultra-wide camera with a 102-degree field of view. The phone also features a 50MP autofocus front camera and supports 8K video recording at 30fps and 4K recording at 60fps.

Connectivity features include Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC and a USB Type-C port with USB 3.2 Gen 1 support. The handset also offers stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos and Hi-Res Audio certification, along with a four-microphone array. For security, it includes an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor and AI-powered face unlock.

The smartphone is powered by a 6,330mAh battery with support for 100W wired HyperCharge and 50W wireless HyperCharge. It carries an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. The Xiaomi 17 measures 151.1 x 71.8 x 8.06mm and weighs 191g.
