In a move to enhance user experience, social media platform X has started rolling out automatic post translation and a new AI-powered photo editing feature. Both updates are driven by xAI’s Grok models.
The platform’s head of product, Nikita Bier, announced that the auto-translation feature is now being rolled out globally. Users can tap on the gear icon on a translated post to turn off automatic translation for specific languages.
This approach is similar to what other platforms have explored to expand global reach. For instance, Reddit has been experimenting with machine translation for the past few years.
Alongside this, X is introducing a new image editor on its iOS app. The feature includes tools for drawing and adding text, along with a blur option that allows users to hide sensitive details such as faces, credit card numbers or Social Security numbers.
The platform is also enabling users to edit images using natural language prompts through Grok. For example, users can type “display this photo as a painting in a museum,” and the AI will generate the edited image accordingly. The company has confirmed that these features will be introduced to Android users soon.
Earlier this year, Elon Musk faced criticism from authorities globally over concerns that users could modify images of others into sexualized versions without consent. Following this, the platform restricted image generation features to paid users. It remains unclear whether the new AI editing tools will also be limited to subscribers.
Several companies, including Google and Adobe, have also introduced AI-powered tools that allow users to edit images using simple text prompts.
