WhatsApp is reportedly testing new features that could allow users to make voice and video calls directly within group chats on its web client. According to a report, the platform is working to improve its calling features so that all group members can join calls, no matter which device they use.
The company had tested a similar feature in April last year, but it was not released at the time as group calling support on the web version was still limited. The feature is now said to be under testing again.
The upcoming update is expected to bring group calling support to WhatsApp Web with multiple participants. Reports suggest the limit could eventually reach up to 32 users. However, WhatsApp may first cap group calls at lower numbers, such as 8 or 16 participants, before gradually expanding to 32. This phased rollout is aimed at ensuring stable and high-quality calls without disruptions. On mobile devices, WhatsApp has supported group calls with up to 32 participants since 2020.
WhatsApp is also planning to add the option to generate a call link directly from a group chat on WhatsApp Web. This link can be shared so others can join the call instantly. Users will be able to choose whether the link is for a voice or video call. This feature was already introduced for Android and iOS users in August 2025.
Another feature under development is call scheduling on WhatsApp Web. Scheduled calls will include details such as a title, description, and estimated start and end times. This will help participants understand the purpose and timing of the call in advance. Users will also need to select whether the scheduled call is for voice or video. These calls will not start automatically but will appear as events visible to all participants. This feature was also rolled out on Android and iOS in August 2025.
As per the report, group voice and video calls, call link creation, and scheduled calls are still in development and are expected to be released in a future update for WhatsApp Web.
