WhatsApp tests scheduled messages to automate text delivery

Planning messages in advance may soon become much simpler on WhatsApp. The messaging platform is reportedly working on a Scheduled Messages feature that lets users write messages ahead of time and send them automatically at a chosen date and time.

Early indications show that testing has already begun. Reports say the feature was spotted in the WhatsApp beta for iOS version 26.7.10.72, which is currently available through Apple’s TestFlight programme. This suggests iPhone users could be among the first to access the feature once testing expands.

If launched publicly, the feature could add strong value for both personal and work-related communication. Users would be able to schedule birthday wishes, meeting reminders, or important updates to reach recipients at the right moment, even if they are offline at that time.

Details shared from beta testing indicate that scheduled messages will stay in a queue within the chat until the set delivery time. WhatsApp is expected to add a dedicated section in the chat info screen where users can view all pending scheduled messages. This section may display the number of messages waiting to be sent and offer simple tools to manage them.

Flexibility appears to be a key part of the design. Users will reportedly be able to edit or delete a scheduled message at any point before it is delivered. If a message is removed before sending, the cancellation will happen silently, with no alert sent to the recipient.

The feature is expected to work in both one-to-one chats and group conversations. This could help users plan team announcements, event reminders, festive greetings, or time-sensitive updates for larger groups.

At present, iPhone users rely on Apple’s Shortcuts app to schedule messages, while Android users often turn to third-party automation tools. These workarounds require extra permissions and unofficial access, which can raise privacy concerns.

A built-in scheduling option inside WhatsApp would remove these limitations and offer a more secure and smooth experience. With its global user base, the feature could quickly become a widely used tool.

No official launch date has been shared yet by Meta Platforms, the parent company of WhatsApp. As with other beta features, a wider rollout is expected once testing and feedback are complete.

Recently, WhatsApp also rolled out “Group Chat History,” allowing up to 100 recent messages to be shared with new group members, helping them catch up on conversations.
