WhatsApp has introduced a new feature allowing users to schedule voice and video calls in advance, making it similar to platforms like Zoom and Google Meet. The update aims to make both personal and professional communication more organised and efficient.
The new “Schedule Call” option appears under the Calls tab after tapping the “+” button. Users can select a date and time for the call, and all participants automatically receive notifications, removing the need for last-minute reminders. The feature supports one-on-one as well as group calls, helping ensure smoother coordination.
To add convenience, WhatsApp has integrated the scheduling feature with Google Calendar, enabling users to sync calls with their personal schedules. Scheduled calls appear in the Calls tab with details such as time, date, and participant names.
In addition to scheduling, WhatsApp has added other updates inspired by professional conferencing tools. These include a “raise hand” feature for better management of group calls, emoji reactions for quick non-verbal responses, and the ability to share invite links directly from the Calls tab. Organisers also get notifications when someone joins through a shared link. All scheduled and live calls continue to be protected with end-to-end encryption.
Steps to Schedule a Call on WhatsApp:
→ Open the Calls tab in WhatsApp.
→ Select the contact or group you want to call.
→ Tap Schedule Call and choose voice or video call.
→ Set the date and time, then confirm to send the invite.
This update is part of WhatsApp’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its communication ecosystem. Earlier in June, the platform banned over 9.8 million accounts in India, including nearly 1.98 million proactive bans before receiving any user complaints.
With these new features, WhatsApp is positioning itself as more than just a messaging app. It now caters to both casual users and professionals, providing a comprehensive communication platform for a wide range of needs.
