WhatsApp rolls out missed call messages and interactive updates across chats, status and channels

The messaging platform is introducing a broad set of upgrades aimed at making everyday communication more flexible and engaging.

WhatsApp has begun rolling out new features that enhance calling, messaging, and content creation across iOS, Android, and desktop platforms. The update includes the ability to send voice and video messages after missed calls, live reactions in voice chats, AI powered image generation and animation, redesigned media organisation, and new interactive elements for Status and Channels.

As part of the WhatsApp for iOS 25.35.74 update, users can now leave a short voice or video message when a call goes unanswered. After a missed call, a record button appears directly on the call screen, allowing callers to send a message without opening the chat. The recipient receives the missed call alert along with the attached message in the same conversation, which can be played and replied to at any time. This keeps communication within the chat and removes the need for separate voicemail services.

In group voice chats, participants can now react using emojis during live conversations. These reactions let users respond without interrupting the discussion. During video calls, the WhatsApp also highlights the active speaker, helping participants follow the conversation more easily.

WhatsApp has expanded its Meta AI tools with improved image generation powered by external models. Users can create more detailed visuals and even turn any image into a short animated video by sharing it with Meta AI and typing a prompt like “animate it”. The animated result can be shared directly in chats, making conversations more dynamic.

On desktop, a redesigned media tab now brings documents, links, and media into a single view, making it easier to find shared content. WhatsApp chats also show cleaner link previews with shortened URLs for better readability.

Status updates now support new reaction stickers, music lyrics, and interactive question stickers. Viewers can respond directly from the status screen, with replies sent privately to the creator. All responses appear in a new “Activity” section, where they can be managed or shared anonymously. These interactions remain protected with end to end encryption.

The same question features are now available in Channels, allowing administrators to collect feedback privately from followers. The WhatsApp rollout is happening in stages, so availability may vary by device, account, and region.
