WhatsApp introduces Liquid Glass interface for iOS users with major visual upgrade

WhatsApp has started rolling out a new Liquid Glass interface to iOS users, marking the app’s most significant visual update in years. The redesign introduces a translucent, glass-like look across the app and is now available to some users through the latest version 25.28.75.

This new design makes use of iOS 26’s advanced graphics capabilities, allowing elements to appear semi-transparent and creating a sense of depth and layering throughout the interface. One of the most noticeable changes is the bottom tab bar, which now floats above the content with adaptive transparency that adjusts automatically between light and dark modes.

According to a popular source, the update also includes a refreshed system keyboard with reflective qualities, along with redesigned buttons that respond with smooth animations when tapped.

The Liquid Glass design is based on Apple’s latest visual framework, introduced with iOS 26. It features real-time rendering and dynamic reactions to movement, creating light effects that make interactions feel more natural and immersive. Context menus now follow the same translucent style while still keeping selected options clear and readable.

Another change is the updated active tab indicator, which now adjusts its width to match the icon precisely. This ensures better visual clarity across different screen sizes. All new design elements work well with both light and dark modes, keeping them in line with the overall iOS 26 design system.

Some iOS users on older app versions may also see the new interface, suggesting that Meta is slowly rolling out the update to a limited group before releasing it more widely. Reports say the Liquid Glass design has been in development since at least September 2025, when it first appeared in beta versions.

As with most major updates from Meta, the rollout is being done in phases. Users who have not yet received the update are expected to get it in the coming weeks.
