Waymo Expands Into Denver And Seattle With Zeekr Vans And Jaguar SUVs

Waymo has announced that it is expanding its presence to Denver and Seattle, introducing both its Jaguar I Pace SUV and Zeekr manufactured vans in the two cities starting this week.

For now, the vehicles will be manually driven while the company begins early testing phases. Waymo stated that it expects to start offering robotaxi rides in Denver by next year, while services in the Seattle metropolitan area will begin “as soon as we’re permitted to do so.” Both cities present challenging environments with snow, rain, and wind, making them ideal for testing autonomous technology in extreme weather conditions compared to more temperate cities such as Phoenix.

Denver and Seattle are the latest additions to Waymo’s growing list of U.S. operations. The company recently revealed that its commercial fleet now includes more than 2,000 robotaxis, with 800 in the San Francisco Bay Area, 500 in Los Angeles, 400 in Phoenix, 100 in Austin, and several operating in Atlanta.

Waymo also has plans to launch robotaxi services in Dallas, Miami, and Washington, D.C. next year. It has already received approval to begin testing in New York City. Beyond these markets, Waymo has taken its vehicles on “road trips” to cities including Philadelphia, with similar plans for Las Vegas, San Diego, Houston, Orlando, and San Antonio.

The expansion reflects the company’s ongoing efforts to establish itself as a leading provider of autonomous ride hailing services in diverse environments across the United States.
