Walmart Announces New Round of Layoffs to Restructure Operations

Walmart, the largest retailer in the United States, has announced a fresh round of layoffs as part of its ongoing restructuring efforts. According to reports, the move will affect hundreds of employees across various locations, particularly in the store support and training divisions. While the exact number of job cuts has not been officially confirmed, the decision is aimed at streamlining operations and adapting to the changing retail environment.

In a memo shared with employees, Cedric Clark, executive vice president of store operations at Walmart US, explained the changes. The company is removing market coordinator positions, which are corporate roles that assist market managers responsible for overseeing multiple stores.

“We’re simplifying our market support structure, reducing touchpoints and friction for our store associates,” said Cedric Clark in the internal message.

The memo also highlighted that this step is intended to make the overall support system more efficient and less complicated for store-level employees. In addition to eliminating the market coordinator roles, Walmart is also cutting coach and coordinator positions at Walmart Academy, the training division that supports store managers and staff development

Despite the job cuts, Walmart has stated that affected employees will be offered alternative roles as store-level coaches in their respective local areas.

The restructuring comes as part of Walmart’s broader efforts to realign its workforce and improve operational efficiency amid shifting consumer behavior and retail trends.
