Waaree Energies gets approval for major lithium-ion battery plant in Andhra Pradesh

In a move that signals a major shift in India’s clean energy push, Waaree Energies has received official approval to set up the country’s largest lithium-ion battery manufacturing facility.

The proposed gigafactory will come up in Rambilli and will involve an investment of ₹8,175 crore. Spread across 300 acres, the project is expected to create around 3,000 jobs, offering a significant boost to local employment and regional development.

The facility is designed as an integrated manufacturing hub. It will cover the entire battery value chain, including the production of battery cells, assembly of battery packs, and development of large-scale energy storage systems, all within a single campus. This approach aims to streamline operations and strengthen domestic manufacturing capabilities.

With this project, Waaree Energies is expanding its footprint beyond solar module manufacturing and entering the energy storage segment. The move is aimed at reducing India’s dependence on imported battery technology while supporting the country’s growing demand for electric vehicles and renewable energy storage solutions. No commissioning timeline has been announced so far.

Industry observers see the project as more than just a new manufacturing unit. It represents a strategic step toward clean energy self-reliance. The gigafactory is expected to play a key role in supporting India’s transition to electric mobility, stabilising renewable power generation, and lowering dependence on external technologies as the country advances toward its long-term energy goals.
