Vodafone Idea Business has expanded its Internet of Things portfolio with the launch of Smart Gas Metering Solutions aimed at the fast growing City Gas Distribution sector. The company said the new offering supports India’s push to modernise its utility infrastructure and improve operational standards across the energy value chain.
The solution helps CGD operators reduce losses caused by leakage, theft, manual billing issues and other inaccuracies. It uses Narrowband IoT technology and a strong communication network to improve billing precision and enhance operational efficiency.
Vodafone Idea, which introduced a smart meter energy ecosystem in 2018, is now broadening its IoT footprint as demand for digital metering grows. The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board has projected that the CGD industry will become India’s largest natural gas consumer by the end of this decade, accounting for nearly one third of total gas usage.
CGD companies have been looking for ways to reduce Lost and Unaccounted Gas, and Vodafone Idea’s new solution is designed to address this challenge. With real time monitoring and better data accuracy, the system supports both improved revenue assurance and enhanced network performance.
