Paytm Founder and CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma showcased the company’s Made-in-India Paytm AI Soundbox to Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal, highlighting Paytm’s commitment to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
Sharma shared on X that it was a privilege to present the innovation, emphasizing Paytm’s mission to bring artificial intelligence to every Indian small and micro business. He described the AI Soundbox as a transformative step in making technology more inclusive, offering shopkeepers a smart assistant that goes beyond traditional payment functions.
In an earlier post, Sharma explained, “It takes a lot of time for technology to mature and become magical. AI is there now. When we envisaged AI Soundbox, soon it was clear that it won’t be just a payment device anymore. It would rather be like a smartphone in the age of feature phones. QR was like a rotary phone, Soundbox a cellular, and this: a smartphone.”
The device, he noted, provides “superhuman capability for small and micro businesses,” turning a payment sound box into an intelligent business partner. Sharma added, “At Paytm, we are very proud to lead innovations for small and micro businesses in India. Today we bring the perfect AI device for millions of businesses, making technology and AI more inclusive.”
Paytm describes the AI Soundbox as the next evolution following its QR and Soundbox innovations. The device integrates payment and business data to serve as a capable AI assistant, reflecting the company’s goal of creating Made-in-India technology that is safe, accessible, and empowering for businesses across the country.
A recent report by a financial research firm highlighted Paytm’s strong position in the merchant ecosystem, citing its omnichannel presence, high-vintage merchant relationships, and advanced data capabilities. The report noted that Paytm’s AI-powered solutions and Soundbox innovations continue to challenge competitors in the merchant payments space.
With the launch of the AI Soundbox, Paytm reinforces its leadership as a homegrown fintech innovator, bringing artificial intelligence to millions of shopkeepers and supporting India’s vision of technological self-reliance.
