A new platform celebrating stories, ideas, and creative thinking came alive this past week with the launch of a school-led literature festival in Mumbai.
Noted author Devdutt Pattanaik inaugurated the 1st edition of the VIBGYOR Literature Festival at VIBGYOR High, Malad East. Organised by the VIBGYOR Group of Schools, the festival highlighted the Group’s focus on creating learning spaces that go beyond textbooks and encourage curiosity, creativity, and meaningful engagement.
During the opening session, Pattanaik addressed students and also took part in a “Meet & Greet Author” interaction. His session set the tone for a day centred on literature, imagination, and thoughtful dialogue.
The festival featured a diverse line-up of speakers, including Mickey Mehta, Savitha Rao, Sanaya Irani, and Rahul Saini. Through multiple sessions held across the day, speakers shared varied perspectives on storytelling, creativity, and learning, engaging audiences through interactive and participative formats.
Designed as a celebration of literature and ideas, the VIBGYOR Literature Festival brought together students, parents, educators, and creative professionals. The event focused on strengthening reading habits while encouraging learners to think critically, express their views clearly, and explore storytelling across different genres.
Reflecting on the conclusion of the festival, Kavita Kerawalla, Vice-Chairperson of the VIBGYOR Group of Schools, said: “At VIBGYOR, we see literature as a powerful tool for shaping independent thought and expression. We were happy to see the VIBGYOR Lit Fest come alive as a space where literature, ideas, and conversations took centre stage, with students engaging deeply with stories and creativity. The festival was an extension of our belief in experimental learning, giving children the opportunity to imagine, question and create beyond the confined of textbooks and screens while nurturing a genuine love for reading.”
The festival marked an important step in reinforcing literature as a vital part of holistic education and creative learning.
