Vande Bharat Sleeper Trains to Debut with Breakthrough Cooling Tech

Indian Railways is all set to usher in a new chapter in overnight train journeys with the upcoming launch of the Vande Bharat Sleeper trains. What makes this fleet truly remarkable is its pioneering use of interlaced coil technology in the air conditioning system—a breakthrough that ensures seamless cooling and uninterrupted comfort throughout the journey.

This innovative HVAC setup marks a first for the nation’s railways. Unlike traditional cooling systems that may fail entirely or cool unevenly when a component malfunctions, the interlaced coil mechanism guarantees consistent airflow. Even if part of the system encounters a glitch, cooling across the coach remains undisturbed. Not only does this create a more relaxing atmosphere for passengers, but it also makes the system more energy-conscious, improving part-load efficiency and helping reduce overall power use. This aligns beautifully with Indian Railways’ larger goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2030.

These futuristic sleeper trains have already completed stringent trial runs conducted by the Research Designs and Standards Organisation earlier this year. Spanning multiple routes like the Ahmedabad-Mumbai line, Jhansi Division, and Kota Division, the trains were tested rigorously over 28 days. The results? An impressive top speed of 180 kmph and stellar performance in terms of safety, passenger ease, and technology compliance.

Each 16-coach train includes a mix of AC-3, AC-2, and First AC compartments, packed with modern amenities and next-level comfort. Indian Railways has ambitious plans ahead, with nine more Vande Bharat Sleeper units scheduled to roll out by December 2025. Production of 24-coach configurations is expected to begin by 2026, further advancing the vision of a modern, reliable, and high-speed rail network for India.

The Vande Bharat Sleeper fleet is not just another addition to the tracks; it’s a bold statement of progress. With comfort, innovation, and sustainability at its core, this is more than just a train—it’s a symbol of India’s futuristic journey in transport.
