In a major push to strengthen its digital infrastructure, the Uttar Pradesh government is working on a plan to develop 8 data centre parks across the state. The initiative is expected to attract investments worth around ₹2 lakh crore and generate more than 50,000 direct jobs.
The proposed locations for these parks include Noida, Greater Noida, the Yamuna Expressway region near Jewar, Ghaziabad, Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi and Agra. According to a senior official, land identification and allocation have already made significant progress in Noida, Greater Noida and the Yamuna Expressway region, with land allotted to some companies.
Several major companies such as HCLTech, Adani Group, NTT Data, Yotta Infrastructure, Sterlite Technologies, Sify Technologies and Panasonic have shown interest in investing in the sector.
In Ghaziabad and Lucknow, land marking is in the final stage. In Kanpur, Varanasi and Agra, location identification and master planning are currently in progress. The government is also ensuring strong infrastructure support, including high-speed connectivity, reliable power supply and improved logistics.
The official added that investment proposals worth around ₹2 lakh crore have already been received. Memorandums of Understanding and initial agreements have been signed for a large portion of these investments. Some projects in Noida and Greater Noida have already reached the construction stage.
As part of its Data Centre Policy introduced in January 2021, the state aims to build modern parks with a total capacity of 900 MW. The revised policy offers incentives such as capital subsidy, electricity charge exemptions, stamp duty relief, priority land allocation and a single-window clearance system.
The government is also promoting the use of renewable energy for these power-intensive facilities. Plans include setting up new substations, strengthening transmission lines and ensuring dedicated power supply to support the data centres.
