Uttar Pradesh Ignites a Digital Awakening with AI Pragya to Empower 10 Lakh Young Minds

In a bold step toward shaping a digitally fluent generation, Uttar Pradesh has launched a transformative initiative called AI Pragya—a visionary programme designed to enlighten and equip ten lakh youth with the knowledge of cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence, machine learning, data analytics, cybersecurity, and more.

Spearheaded by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, AI Pragya stands as a beacon of opportunity, aiming to uplift the youth with future-ready skills. The name itself reflects a deeper purpose: Artificial Intelligence Programme for Resourcefulness, Awareness, Growth, and Youth Advancement.

The digital movement is not solitary. It flourishes through partnerships across the education, healthcare, agriculture, and rural development departments, ensuring its reach is both deep and wide. Acting as the programme’s anchor is Uttar Pradesh’s Centre for e-Governance under the department of IT and electronics, coordinating the blueprint for skill development.

To bring the highest standards of training to the people, the state has allied with global technology leaders like Microsoft, Intel, Google, HCL, Amazon, and the Wadhwani Foundation. Their expertise will help bridge the digital divide and usher in new opportunities for employment across various fields.

AI Pragya finds further strength in its association with the World Bank, which has committed a generous loan of INR 2,737 crore over six years, also backing the UP AGREES initiative aimed at rural and agricultural growth.

This launch echoes the broader national pulse. Other states, such as Telangana and Tamil Nadu, have pioneered similar efforts with missions like AI for Youth and the AI Mission. Meanwhile, the central government continues to propel AI learning through major efforts like PM Kaushal Vikas Yojana, FutureSkills PRIME, and the National AI Programme.

The Centre has allocated significant resources too—INR 1,000 crore under Digital India for digital upskilling and INR 2,000 crore for the IndiaAI Mission. Another INR 500 crore supports building Centres of Excellence in AI across the education sector.

Earlier this year, 19,774 individuals were already trained under PMKVY 4.0 in AI-based courses. With more than 14,000 DPIIT-recognised startups now flourishing in Uttar Pradesh, this digital initiative could further energise the entrepreneurial spirit of the state.
