US Navy selects Anduril’s Dive-XL for advanced autonomous underwater missions

In a major push towards next-generation maritime technology, the Defense Innovation Unit and the US Navy have selected Anduril’s Dive-XL autonomous underwater vehicle for the Combat Autonomous Maritime Platform Project (CAMP).

The selection came through a competitive Commercial Solutions Opening process in mid-March 2026. Dive-XL stood out for its ability to operate in environments where GPS signals are unavailable, making it suitable for deep-sea drone launches and long underwater missions.

The vehicle is powered by an all-electric system, allowing it to travel more than 2,000 nautical miles and remain submerged for extended periods. It can carry up to 3 payload modules, supporting tasks such as surveillance and strike operations. It also functions as a mothership for smaller underwater drones. So far, Anduril’s autonomous undersea vehicles have recorded over 42,355 km and 6,752 hours of mission operations.

Dive-XL is designed with a modular hull that fits into standard shipping containers, making transportation easier by truck or aircraft. The system is inspired by Australia’s Ghost Shark project and is being built in Sydney and Rhode Island, with the capacity to produce dozens of units each year.

A long-duration test run is expected within 4 months of the contract award, likely in July. Multiple units are already operating across the US, marking a significant advancement in how the Navy monitors and secures underwater environments.
