US Embassy thanks CBI for action against cybercrime network targeting American citizens

The United States Embassy has expressed its appreciation to the Central Bureau of Investigation for its continued support in dismantling transnational cybercrime networks that target American citizens.

In a post on X, the US Embassy said, “India’s Central Bureau of Investigation has dismantled an illegal call center targeting US nationals and arrested a key operative in the transnational cybercrime network. Through coordinated intelligence and decisive action, our agencies are working together to dismantle international networks to prevent future scams and keep our citizens safe. Thank you for your continued support, @CBIHeadquarters.”

The acknowledgement came after the CBI arrested Vikas Kumar Nimar, who was allegedly running illegal operations through a firm named VC Infrometrix Pvt Ltd. He was detained in Lucknow last week after evading authorities for more than a year, according to a statement from the agency.

The CBI received information about his presence at his residence in Lucknow and carried out a raid. During the operation, officers discovered that Nimar was running another illegal call centre set up to cheat victims in the United States.

The agency said, “During the search operation, the CBI busted another illegal call centre being operated by the accused Mr Vikas Kumar Nimar in Lucknow targeting US nationals.”

A search of the premises led to the recovery of 52 laptops containing incriminating digital evidence. The CBI stated that these devices were being used to carry out the cybercrime activities.

The investigation continues as authorities work to map the full extent of the network and identify others involved in the operation.
