The Uttar Pradesh government has stepped up efforts to curb cybercrime as cases of online fraud continue to rise across the state.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath issued a public warning to citizens about cyber frauds, with special focus on scams commonly referred to as “digital arrest” cases. He cautioned people to remain alert while using social media and digital platforms and to avoid falling prey to such misleading tactics.
Taking to social media, the Chief Minister highlighted the expansion of cybercrime police infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh. He said cybercrime police stations are now operational in all 75 districts of the state, a sharp increase from just 2 stations in 2017. The move reflects the state’s efforts to strengthen its response to online crimes.
Adityanath also clarified that the term “digital arrest” has no legal validity. He said the phrase is being misused by fraudsters to intimidate victims and extract money through fear and deception.
The Chief Minister urged citizens to promptly report any such incidents through the national cybercrime helpline number 1930. He stressed that timely reporting can help authorities take quick action and limit financial losses caused by cyber fraud.
The state government continues to focus on improving cyber awareness and expanding enforcement capabilities to address the evolving nature of digital crimes.
