A new step toward everyday use of humanoid robots has been signalled by Unitree Robotics with the introduction of what it calls the world’s first humanoid robot app store.
The Hangzhou based robotics company has revealed the Unitree Robotics Developer Platform, a centralized system that allows users to access and control humanoid robots directly through their smartphones. The platform is designed to bring embodied intelligence into daily life by enabling interaction, control, and content sharing through a mobile interface.
Unitree described the platform as the “world’s first humanoid app store” and encouraged developers and users to “develop and share together” in videos released on social media platforms such as YouTube, X, and the Chinese platform RedNote. Features showcased include remote robot control using a phone camera and access to pre-programmed demonstrations such as the martial arts “Bruce Lee” routine, the 1960s dance move “The Twist”, and ballet performances. Users can also upload, download, and share training datasets and action sequences for Unitree robots.
The company is widely seen as one of China’s leading robotics firms and is part of Hangzhou’s “Six Little Dragons”, companies credited with reshaping the country’s technology landscape. Unitree first gained attention for its quadruped and humanoid robots.
In November, founder and chief technology officer Wang Xingxing was appointed to a national robotics committee by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. Wang and another committee member, Peng Zhihui of AgiBot, are often referred to as China’s “twin stars” in robotics.
Unitree’s humanoid robots have attracted global attention. Its G1 humanoid briefly appeared for sale on a retail website in October before being removed. Later that month, the company teased its H2 humanoid with a human like face performing kickboxing, ballet moves, and runway modelling.
Speaking at a Qualcomm event in September, Wang said martial arts and ballet are part of a multi step plan to integrate humanoid robots into daily life. He added that future stages include real time action generation and voice controlled task execution, possibly as soon as next year. Unitree has completed a 4 month pre IPO tutoring process and is targeting a valuation of up to US$7 billion.
