UIDAI Partners With Sarvam AI To Launch Voice Support For Aadhaar

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has teamed up with the Bengaluru-based startup Sarvam AI to introduce voice support for Aadhaar services. Beginning March 18, Sarvam will implement AI-driven voice interactions focused on resident needs.

This partnership is set for an initial term of one year, with the possibility of a one-year extension, according to a press release.

The AI system will collect feedback on the enrollment and update processes while also detecting instances of overcharging by service providers. Furthermore, it will provide real-time fraud alerts to Aadhaar number holders if any suspicious activity is detected during authentication requests.

The voice and fraud detection services will support ten Indian languages, including Hindi, English, Telugu, Tamil, Marathi, Gujarati, Kannada, Odia, Punjabi, and Malayalam, with plans to add more languages in the near future.

“UIDAI is a people centric organization. GenAI is the next technology evolution in UIDAI’s journey as a technology pioneer, building on our long-standing commitment to innovation for facilitating ease of living,” said Bhuvnesh Kumar, CEO, UIDAI.

“We are privileged to collaborate with UIDAI. This engagement exemplifies the immense potential of AI to drive public good,” said Vivek Raghavan, Co-Founder of Sarvam AI.

UIDAI will have complete ownership of the solution, with all data kept within their environment at every stage to guarantee security. Last month, the founders of Sarvam AI announced their intention to present a proposal to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology for the development of foundational AI models as part of the IndiaAI mission.
