UIDAI launches new Aadhaar app for Android and iOS with enhanced security and digital identity features

A new Aadhaar mobile app has been launched by the Unique Identification Authority of India, offering a secure and convenient way for citizens to store and access their Aadhaar card on their smartphones. The app, now available on both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store, is designed to support more than one hundred forty crore Aadhaar holders with improved digital identity management.

People had been waiting for a secure digital alternative because earlier there was no reliable way to store Aadhaar on mobile devices. The previous M Aadhaar app also had limitations, especially in managing multiple Aadhaar profiles for family members and in updating key Aadhaar details. The new app aims to address these issues while adding several advanced features.

One of the major improvements is multi profile management. Users can add up to five Aadhaar profiles for family members, provided the Aadhaar numbers are linked to the same mobile number. This makes it simple to maintain and access household identity information.

The app also includes a biometric security lock. Users can lock their Aadhaar data using biometric authentication, ensuring that only they can access or share the information.

Another feature is selective data sharing. People can choose exactly what details they want to share, such as only their name and photo, while keeping sensitive information like address or date of birth hidden.

The app supports QR code verification. Users can generate or scan Aadhaar QR codes for quick, paperless verification at banks, government offices and service centers.

Saved Aadhaar details can be viewed in offline mode once the initial setup is complete, although full features are available only when connected to the internet. The app also provides usage history monitoring, allowing users to track how and where their Aadhaar has been used through a built in activity log.

To download and set up the new Aadhaar app, users can follow these steps. First, download the Aadhaar app from the Play Store or the App Store. Open the app, choose a preferred language and enter the twelve digit Aadhaar number. Verify the number with the OTP sent to the registered mobile. Complete the mandatory face authentication and then set a six digit security PIN to protect the profile.
