Ubisoft announces layoffs at Massive Entertainment and Ubisoft Stockholm amid restructuring

Ubisoft has announced job cuts at its Swedish studios, Massive Entertainment and Ubisoft Stockholm, as part of a broader cost reduction and restructuring plan. The company said the move could affect around 55 roles across the two units. Ubisoft clarified that the decision is “forward looking and structural” and not linked to individual performance.

In a statement shared with a gaming publication, Ubisoft confirmed that employees at the Malmo based Massive studio and Ubisoft Stockholm were informed about the proposed organisational changes on Tuesday.

The restructuring follows the completion of a Voluntary Leave Program that began in fall 2025. Ubisoft said it has now finalised its long term roadmap and completed its staffing process. This has given the company a clearer view of the structure and capacity needed to support both studios in a sustainable way.

“These proposed changes are forward looking and structural, they are not related to individual performance, recent deliveries, or the quality of the work produced by the teams,” the company said.

Massive Entertainment, known for titles such as Star Wars Outlaws and Avatar Frontiers of Pandora, will now shift its main focus to The Division franchise. The studio is currently developing The Division 3. In a recent interview, franchise executive producer Julian Gerighty confirmed that the next instalment after The Division 2 is in active production.

Massive is also working on The Division 2 Survivors, a survival extraction mode that is expected to launch in 2026.

Ubisoft said that the long term direction for the studios remains the same. The company added that Massive will continue to act as the global lead for The Division franchise, support an unannounced technology project, and play a key role in the development of Snowdrop and Ubisoft Connect.

This round of layoffs comes shortly after Ubisoft announced the closure of its Halifax studio, which led to 71 job losses. In October, the company also launched Vantage Studios as part of a wider restructuring supported by Tencent. This new unit will focus on major franchises such as Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six.
