Uber has announced a partnership with Indian Railways at Ahmedabad and Howrah Railway Stations, marking a major step in integrating ride-hailing services with India’s railway network.
The initiative aims to enhance passenger connectivity at key transportation hubs and reflects Uber’s focus on improving multimodal mobility. It seeks to make travel to and from railway stations simpler, more reliable, and convenient for millions of commuters.
An Uber official said: “Our exclusive collaboration with Indian Railways at Ahmedabad and Howrah Railway Stations is a step forward in strengthening urban mobility infrastructure and ensuring reliable connectivity for millions of travellers. By integrating Uber’s technology with key public transport hubs, we are working towards building a seamless, multimodal transportation ecosystem that simplifies how people move across cities.”
Ahmedabad Railway Station, ranked as the seventh largest in India, currently serves over 1.2 lakh passengers daily. Its capacity is expected to rise to over 3 lakh passengers per day by 2053. Howrah Railway Station, India’s largest and a key entry point to Eastern India, handles more than 10 lakh passengers every day, making it one of the busiest transport hubs in the country.
This collaboration represents Uber’s first managed operations at railway stations in India. To improve passenger experience, Uber has set up dedicated parking areas connected directly to station infrastructure, ensuring smooth access for both riders and drivers. Ahmedabad’s parking area is linked to the main foot-over bridge, while Howrah features designated kiosks to manage high passenger traffic. Both locations will have on-ground teams and support staff to assist travellers.
The partnership is also expected to benefit Uber drivers in Ahmedabad and Howrah, offering increased trip opportunities and improved earning potential. By combining planned infrastructure with real-time assistance, Uber aims to provide a safe, convenient, and reliable mobility option for railway passengers.
