Uber increases the safety of two-wheeler riders by introducing AI-powered helmet selfies

Uber, the ride-sharing business, revealed new safety features for both drivers and passengers on its “Moto” two-wheeler service on Wednesday. These measures include efforts to increase the use of helmets and a function that would enable female drivers to filter for female passengers.

Both in-app helmet “nudges” for riders and AI-powered helmet selfies for drivers are part of the new safety feature for “Uber Moto”.

Uber said that it is distributing 3,000 safety kits nationwide and implementing new tech-led features to increase safety for drivers and passengers on two-wheelers. In India, vehicle and moto services account for more than half of all Uber rides today.

“With new safety features and distribution of safety kits, we are affirming our commitment to safer roads while supporting drivers with flexible earning opportunities,” Manish Bindrani, Head of Regional Supply Growth, Uber India and South Asia said at a conference.

In the first phase, Harsh Malhotra, the Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways, gave safety kits containing helmets, reflective vests, safety stickers, and protective gear to a chosen group of Uber Moto drivers in Delhi.
