Two Nabbed in Surat for Orchestrating Over ₹1 Crore Cyber Scam Through Fake Stock Investment Apps

In the silent corners of the internet where ambition meets deception, a cyber fraud amounting to ₹1.12 crore has come to light. Authorities in Faridabad have arrested two individuals from Surat, Gujarat, for allegedly orchestrating a digital investment scam that led a local resident into a financial trap.

The accused, identified as 29-year-old Ajit and 23-year-old Vivek, reportedly enticed unsuspecting victims by promoting fake stock trading opportunities through WhatsApp groups and counterfeit mobile applications. Police revealed that the complainant, a resident of Baselwa Colony in Faridabad, was lured into one such group that regularly shared investment advice. Encouraged by the convincing narratives, he downloaded two apps and proceeded to invest ₹1,12,89,135 across several transactions.

Trouble began when attempts to withdraw the invested amount failed. Realising he had been misled, the victim approached the Cyber Police Station in Central Faridabad. Officials swiftly registered the case under applicable cybercrime sections and launched an investigation.

With the help of technical surveillance, the cyber cell traced the digital footprints of the suspects and detained them in Surat. During the arrest operation, police confiscated a range of evidence including 86 unsigned cheques, 10 bank passbooks, 15 ATM cards and five mobile devices.

The investigation revealed a sinister financial loop. “During interrogation, it was revealed that Ajit had sold his bank account to Vivek for a commission. Vivek used to withdraw the fraudulently obtained funds and transfer them to other handlers via USDT,” a police spokesperson shared. USDT, a form of cryptocurrency, was allegedly used to route the stolen money across untraceable digital networks.

Cyber Authorities were able to track around ₹10 lakh of the embezzled amount to Ajit’s account. The arrested individuals are now in five-day police custody as interrogations continue, and law enforcement is working to uncover the broader network behind this digital deception.
