Two Inter-State Cyber Fraudsters Busted in Adilabad for Work-From-Home Scam

Adilabad police have apprehended two inter-state cyber fraudsters from Madhya Pradesh, dismantling a sophisticated “work-from-home” scam that allegedly duped hundreds of individuals across the country, amounting to losses of lakhs of rupees. The arrested individuals have been identified as Sourabh Raikwar and Rithik Sen, both residents of Tikamgarh district in Madhya Pradesh.

The duo’s fraudulent activities came to light following a complaint lodged by a victim from the Adilabad region, who reported losing a staggering ₹5.03 lakh in phases to the elaborate scheme.

According to Superintendent of Police Akhil Mahajan, the accused lured unsuspecting victims by promising lucrative work-from-home job opportunities with high daily returns, often ranging from ₹2,000 to ₹8,000 for simple tasks. They operated by forming groups on popular messaging platforms like WhatsApp and Telegram. To gain the trust of their targets, the cyber fraudsters would initially transfer small amounts, typically between ₹150 to ₹450, for completing initial tasks.

Investigations revealed the scale of their operation, with the accused admitting to targeting approximately 900 individuals across India each month.

Upon receiving the complaint, Adilabad cyber police swiftly formed a special team. This team successfully tracked and apprehended Raikwar and Sen in Madhya Pradesh. They were subsequently brought to Adilabad and produced before a local court. Cyber Police seized four mobile phones, a laptop, three bank passbooks, a keyboard, and a monitor from the duo, believed to be instruments used in their illicit activities.

SP Akhil Mahajan stated that further investigation is ongoing, with special teams formed to trace and apprehend other remaining members of the gang, including both domestic and international operatives, highlighting the extensive nature of the cybercrime syndicate. The success of the operation was attributed to the efforts of Adilabad DSP L Jeevan Reddy, Rural Inspector Phanidhar, SI Vishnuvardhan, and other dedicated officers.
