Amid rising cybersecurity threats in the semiconductor sector, Trio-Tech has disclosed a ransomware attack affecting one of its subsidiaries in Singapore.
The incident occurred on March 11, 2026, and led to the encryption of certain files within the company’s network. Following the breach, the subsidiary activated its incident response protocols. Systems were taken offline to contain the attack and stop further spread. The company also brought in third-party cybersecurity experts and informed law enforcement authorities.
Initially, Trio-Tech believed the incident would not have a material impact on its operations. However, the situation escalated after threat actors began releasing stolen data. The company has now classified the breach as a potentially material cybersecurity event.
The full extent of the data breach is still being investigated. Trio-Tech is working to notify affected parties as required by law. It is also coordinating with its cyber insurance provider to support recovery efforts and evaluate possible claims.
The company stated that there has been no major disruption to operations so far. However, the long-term impact will depend on the outcome of the investigation and the scale of data exposure.
The incident highlights increasing cyber risks within the semiconductor supply chain. Smaller firms, often part of critical technology ecosystems, are becoming frequent targets as entry points for cyber attacks.
