A shift towards smarter factory operations is underway as Toyota prepares to introduce humanoid robots at its manufacturing facility in Woodstock, Canada, as part of its next phase of automation.
The plant is set to receive 7 Digit humanoid robots developed by Agility Robotics. These robots are scheduled to begin operations in 2026, following a year-long testing phase. Their primary role will be to unload auto parts between production lines, with the aim of improving workflow and overall efficiency on the shop floor.
The robots will be operated through Arc, a cloud-based management system that allows centralised deployment and control. According to Agility Robotics, this system helps streamline robot operations while keeping implementation costs lower. The company has said that the use of artificial intelligence makes it easier to scale deployments and manage the robots effectively across industrial environments.
This rollout aligns with Toyota’s plans to increase RAV4 production in early 2026. The move reflects a broader effort to optimise manufacturing processes by combining human skills with advanced robotics. The focus remains on improving productivity while making daily operations smoother for workers.
Agility Robotics is not new to large-scale industrial partnerships. The company has ongoing ties with major global players, including Amazon. Similar humanoid robots are already being tested through pilot programmes across automotive manufacturing facilities worldwide, signalling growing interest in this technology.
The introduction of Digit robots at the Woodstock plant highlights how automakers are exploring new ways to integrate robotics into core production tasks. By assigning repetitive material-handling work to robots, manufacturers aim to create more efficient and adaptable factory environments while supporting collaboration between humans and machines.
