TKIL Industries Partners With Swiss Firm SoHHytec to Launch Green Hydrogen Plant in India

EPC contractor TKIL Industries, formerly known as thyssenkrupp Industries India, has teamed up with Swiss manufacturer SoHHytec to set up a green hydrogen plant in India next year, a senior company official said. The partnership will leverage SoHHytec’s innovative artificial photosynthesis technology, also called photo-electrolysis, to produce green hydrogen from renewable energy sources like solar and wind for industrial applications.

“I’m quite hopeful, within the next 12 months, you will see us building out a green hydrogen plant with our technology,” TKIL Industries MD & CEO Vivek Bhatia told news agencies.

TKIL Industries, an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) company, is in discussions with businesses across sectors such as steel and oil marketing for building green hydrogen plants. “We are the EPC player. We are talking to steel manufacturers. We are talking to oil marketing companies. So, whoever needs green hydrogen will invite us and we will build the plant for them and hand it over to them,” Bhatia explained.

SoHHytec is considered globally among the most cost-efficient technologies for green hydrogen production. Under the partnership, TKIL Industries will serve as the exclusive partner in India to manufacture and supply specific equipment and machinery, as well as install green hydrogen projects.

India’s National Hydrogen Mission is a key policy initiative aimed at achieving the country’s climate targets, reducing dependence on fossil fuels, and boosting renewable energy capacity. The mission targets producing five million tonnes per year of green hydrogen by 2030 while lowering production costs.

Bhatia added that the company is currently focusing on adopting and establishing new technologies. While no new plant is being built at present, TKIL Industries is expanding capacity within its existing facilities by adding more bays. “We will consistently spend around Rs 25 crore to Rs 50 crore every year to expand capacity… Once we are out of space, we will look at a major investment,” he said.

In addition, TKIL Industries has partnered with German manufacturer HOPPECKE Batterien GmbH & Co in the field of battery systems for the rail sector in India. TKIL Industries also operates in mining, bulk material handling systems, and cement plants.
