Titagarh Rail secures ₹2,481 crore contract for Mumbai Metro Line 5 project

Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd has announced that it has received a ₹2,481 crore contract from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority for the Mumbai Metro Line 5 project. The contract involves the design, manufacturing, supply and commissioning of 132 metro coaches along with several key transit systems.

The scope of work includes signalling for a 24.9 km stretch, telecommunication systems across 16 stations, platform screen doors, depot machinery and five years of comprehensive maintenance support. The project covers both phases of the Line 5 corridor, from Kapur Bawdi to Kasheli and Dhamankar Naka in Phase 1, and from Dhamankar Naka to Bhiwandi and Kalyan APMC in Phase 2.

This is the second major order Titagarh Rail Systems has received for the Mumbai Metro network. Titagarh Rail Systems previously supplied metro trains for Line 6, strengthening its role as a growing solutions provider in the Indian urban transit sector.

Vice Chairman and Managing Director Umesh Chowdhary said that the contract highlights the company’s increasing capability in delivering complete metro systems, from trains to integrated operating infrastructure. He noted that the project reinforces Titagarh’s position as a key contributor to the country’s public transport development.

The metro coaches under this order will be manufactured at the company’s Passenger Rail Systems facility located in Uttarpara near Kolkata. The factory is equipped to handle advanced metro train production and has been part of several national rail and metro development projects.

Once completed, Mumbai Metro Line 5 is expected to boost connectivity across key residential and industrial regions, helping to reduce congestion and improve commute efficiency in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
