Tesla’s Full Self Driving (FSD) feature credited for preventing major crash

A driver has shared a dramatic video showing how Tesla’s Full Self Driving feature helped him avoid a head on collision, drawing a reaction from Elon Musk and sparking widespread discussion online. The incident occurred while the driver was travelling through New Mexico after attending a Tesla shareholders meeting.

The user, identified as Clifford, posted the video on a social platform and wrote that a collision at seventy five miles per hour was narrowly avoided thanks to the vehicle’s Full Self Driving system. He said the impact was prevented with only minor damage to the mirror and window, adding that the experience left him shaken. His post said, “FSD saves lives,” and the video quickly gained more than fourteen million views along with thousands of comments.

He wrote, “It happened to me tonight. Going through New Mexico from the Tesla Shareholders’ meeting, the head on collision (75 mph) with oncoming traffic was averted. Just a broken mirror, busted window, and a bit of a shaken mind. Thank you Elon, thank you Tesla, thank you cybertruck.”

Several online users responded with relief and shared their own experiences with Tesla’s systems. One user said they were glad he was safe. Another wrote that the glare from headlights and high speeds made the situation dangerous and said the system likely prevented multiple vehicles from a serious crash. A third user recalled a similar experience on a freeway and said the car reacted faster than they could have.

Tesla describes Full Self Driving, also known as Full Self Driving Supervised, as a feature that supports drivers with intelligent and accurate manoeuvres. It can assist with routing, steering, lane changes, parking and other tasks under the driver’s supervision.

The feature is available in several markets including the United States, Canada, China, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Australia and New Zealand. Tesla emphasises that active supervision is still required and that the feature does not make the vehicle autonomous.
