Tesla outlines plan to expand charging network and customer centres in India

Tesla has announced that it plans to develop charging infrastructure in India that supports the daily routines of its customers. The company already operates in Delhi and Mumbai and aims to expand its supercharging network while also offering home charging solutions as it increases its operations in the country.

Sharad Agarwal, Tesla India General Manager, said that the company intends to create a charging network across major cities. He said, “We always build our infrastructure around the lifestyle of our customers, where they eat, where they work, where they go for staycations.”

Tesla has begun delivering the Model Y in India. The company said buyers can recover almost one third of the cost of the vehicle within four to five years due to lower fuel and maintenance costs. The starting price of the Model Y is fifty nine point eight nine lakh.

Tesla has launched its first Tesla Centre at Orchid Business Park in Gurugram. The centre offers retail services, after sales support, vehicle delivery and charging facilities in a single location. Visitors can learn about electric vehicle technologies, take test drives of the Model Y, use V four superchargers and access service support. Tesla opened its first experience centre in Mumbai in July and its second in Delhi Aerocity in August.

Agarwal said Tesla now has three superchargers in Delhi and Mumbai and will soon add another in Gurugram. The company is also working with hotels and other establishments to provide destination charging for guests. Once the Gurugram station becomes operational, Tesla will operate four charging stations with sixteen superchargers and ten destination chargers.

Agarwal said, “Tesla’s mission is to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy. By building charging infrastructure that fits people’s daily lives, we are making electric driving convenient for everyone in India.” He added that the network will grow quickly to support a smooth electric vehicle experience.

He also highlighted the role of electric mobility in improving air quality in cities like Delhi and Mumbai which face severe pollution. He said, “We have delivered more than eight million cars worldwide, which has helped reduce carbon emissions by thirty two million tonnes. So that is the kind of sustainable future we are talking about.” He added that Tesla’s goal is not only to sell cars but also to change how it reaches customers and delivers its products.

Tesla offers two Model Y variants in India. The rear wheel drive model costs fifty nine point eight nine lakh, has a sixty four kilowatt hour battery and offers a range of up to five hundred kilometres. The long range rear wheel drive model costs sixty seven point eight nine lakh, has an eighty four point two kilowatt hour battery and offers a range of up to six hundred sixty one kilometres. Both variants are imported from Shanghai and carry duties of more than twenty one lakh due to India’s tariff on fully built electric vehicles.

According to the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations, Tesla sold one hundred four vehicles in September and October. The company has registered one hundred eighteen cars in India in twenty twenty five, including forty units in October. Tesla has committed to selling cars in India but has not announced plans for local assembly.
