Tesla has launched a dedicated app for the HarmonyOS platform, tapping into Huawei’s large smartphone user base. The app is currently listed on AppGallery under beta testing, allowing selected users to try new features before a public release.
The beta version, numbered 4.52.1 (3761), is open for testing until January 30, 2026. While the app is not yet available to all users, participants can access a wide range of vehicle control and connectivity features.
The HarmonyOS Tesla app introduces real time charging status, along with options to start and stop charging remotely. Users can also control climate settings and precondition the vehicle, helping maintain a comfortable cabin temperature in both summer and winter before a drive.
One of the key highlights is the car key function. The app allows a Huawei device to lock and unlock a Tesla remotely. This feature uses Huawei’s NearLink short range wireless technology on the HarmonyOS 6 platform, reducing lock and unlock latency to under 5 ms. Other car manufacturers in China have also adopted NearLink, which supports phone based car keys even when the phone battery level drops to 5 percent.
The app also includes trip planning and navigation updates. Users can control media playback, locate their vehicle by flashing headlights or sounding the horn, and operate the panoramic sunroof. Software updates can be installed remotely, without the need to be inside the car.
Chinese car brands have already rolled out HarmonyOS wallet key cards using NFC, Bluetooth, or Ultra Wideband to enable contactless car access. According to sources tracking Tesla app development, Tesla is working on similar HarmonyOS wallet key card support, which could be introduced in future updates.
Huawei previously supported Android apps on HarmonyOS through Android libraries. Recent platform updates have shifted HarmonyOS toward a fully native app ecosystem, removing Android dependencies. Major Chinese technology companies, including Tencent, have already migrated their apps to native HarmonyOS versions. By 2025, around 100000 native HarmonyOS apps were available on AppGallery, including most of China’s top 1000 apps.
The addition of Tesla further strengthens HarmonyOS as a growing platform and improves cross platform connectivity for users. Tesla is expected to roll out the full public version of the app once beta testing is complete.
