Telangana has recorded a 10% decline in financial cybercrime complaints during the first eight months of 2025, along with a 25% drop in the total amount lost to cyber fraud. According to data from the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB), the recovery or funds put on hold from cybercrime cases also improved from 12% in 2024 to 17% this year.
Between January and August 2024, the state police received 63,765 financial cybercrime complaints, with victims reporting losses of ₹1,264 crore. During the same period in 2025, the number of complaints dropped to 57,237, while the total amount lost decreased to ₹947 crore.
Nationally, financial cybercrime complaints saw a sharp increase of 37%, rising from 10.7 lakh cases in 2024 to 14.7 lakh cases in 2025. However, the overall amount lost across the country decreased by 7%, from ₹14,598 crore to ₹13,568 crore.
In Telangana, police were able to recover or freeze ₹156 crore in 2025, accounting for 17% of the total reported losses. In the same period last year, ₹158 crore was put on hold, representing 12% of total losses. Nationwide, the recovery or frozen funds rose from ₹1,775.6 crore in 2024 (12% of total losses) to ₹2,373.9 crore in 2025 (17% of total losses).
While financial cybercrime incidents declined, the state witnessed a 23% rise in non-financial cybercrime complaints. These cases increased from 16,592 in 2024 to 20,345 in 2025.
A TGCSB official said, “The reduction in financial cybercrimes and monetary loss in the state is due to increased awareness among people. This awareness has also led to more people reporting non-financial cybercrimes such as harassment.”
The TGCSB attributed the decline in financial fraud to better digital literacy, improved cyber awareness, and timely reporting through helplines. Authorities emphasised the importance of continued public education and prompt reporting to further curb cyber-related financial losses in the state.
