Hyderabad: The Telangana police have set a high standard in crime detection and support for victims. As technology advances, cybercrime has emerged as a major challenge for law enforcement agencies globally. Acknowledging this trend, the Telangana police have taken proactive measures to combat cyber offenses, including online fraud, phishing scams, financial fraud, and identity theft.
The department not only registers cybercrime cases to hold offenders accountable but also assists victims in recovering their lost funds. The number of reported cybercrimes has increased as the Telangana police actively file cases to aid victims in reclaiming their money. A notable achievement of this initiative is the prompt reimbursement of stolen funds to victims.
In 2024, the Telangana police department successfully facilitated the return of Rs 183 crore to those affected, showcasing its effectiveness in cybercrime detection and financial recovery. This success is attributed to strong collaboration with banks, financial institutions, and cyber monitoring agencies, which allows for the swift tracing and reversal of fraudulent transactions.
While traditional crimes such as murder, robbery, rioting, burglary, physical assaults, and property offenses have seen a decline in recent years, cybercrimes have surged. Police officials attribute this shift to the increasing technical skills and awareness among criminals who exploit digital platforms for illicit activities. The Telangana police have distinguished themselves as leaders in the nation regarding cybercrime detection and the recovery of lost mobile phones. Their advanced tracking systems, along with specialized cybercrime units, have enabled the recovery of over 60,000 stolen or lost mobile phones, providing considerable relief to the community.
This achievement underscores the police force’s dedication and effectiveness in utilizing technology for the benefit of the public by promptly registering cases, supporting victims, and facilitating financial restitution.
In addition to other measures, the police have been actively working to block a significant number of SIM cards, IMEIs, and URLs associated with criminals.
