Telangana Lok Adalat settles over 1.44 lakh cases, enables ₹25 crore cybercrime refunds

In a major relief for citizens, the National Lok Adalat in Telangana delivered significant outcomes by resolving a large number of cases and facilitating substantial refunds to cybercrime victims.

During the Lok Adalat held on Sunday, a total of 1,44,251 cases were settled across the state. At the same time, cybercrime victims received refunds amounting to nearly ₹25 crore. Telangana Police played a key role in enabling ₹24.91 crore to be returned to 4,627 victims through this process.

Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) Director Shikha Goel said the effort was carried out in coordination with the Telangana State Legal Services Authority, banks, digital payment platforms, and police units statewide. Unit-wise data shows TGCSB headquarters facilitated ₹5.64 crore refunds for 87 victims. Malkajgiri unit recovered ₹4.79 crore for 832 victims, while Hyderabad unit returned ₹3.99 crore to 553 victims. Cyberabad and Sangareddy units each enabled refunds of ₹1.52 crore.

Since its inception, TGCSB has helped 53,434 victims recover a total of ₹399.06 crore. Recovery amounts have increased sharply over time, rising from ₹8.3 crore in 2023 to ₹183.9 crore in 2024 and ₹183 crore in 2025. In 2026 alone, ₹24.91 crore has already been recovered within the first 3 months.

The director credited this progress to strong coordination with banks and the judiciary, especially in addressing UPI frauds, investment scams, and identity theft cases.

She also advised citizens to stay alert against cyber fraud. People were urged not to share OTPs, PINs, or banking details with unknown individuals and to verify customer care numbers only through official websites. Citizens were cautioned against clicking suspicious links and asked to report fraud immediately by calling ‘1930’ or using the cybercrime portal. Quick reporting during the “golden hour” improves the chances of recovering funds.

The Lok Adalat also recorded a 37.14% increase in case resolution compared to the previous session in December, with 39,069 additional cases settled. The session, initially planned for March 14 and conducted on March 28, covered a wide range of cases, including 21,388 compoundable FIR cases, 57,343 e-petty cases, 60,094 Motor Vehicles Act violations, 791 disaster management cases, and 4,635 cybercrime cases.

Hyderabad led with 15,719 cases resolved, followed by Malkajgiri, Siddipet, Ramagundam, and Nalgonda. Officials said early groundwork from March 19 and strong police-judiciary coordination ensured smooth execution, reducing litigation burden and saving time and costs for citizens.
