The Government of Telangana, in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), is all set to launch India’s first state-led Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) for Artificial Intelligence (AI) — the Telangana Data Exchange (TGDeX) — on Wednesday, July 2.
Developed by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, TGDeX has been created with support from the Emerging Technologies Wing of Telangana’s ITE&C Department. JICA’s Digital Transformation Lab (DXLab) has also provided strategic and technical guidance for the project.
TGDeX is aimed at providing access to high-quality datasets and collaborative tools to promote AI-driven innovation across various sectors. The platform is designed to encourage partnerships among government bodies, startups, industry leaders, and research organisations to create scalable AI solutions.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said the launch of TGDeX highlights the government’s efforts to make Telangana a leader in AI and an example of how technology can positively impact citizens’ lives. “I invite all stakeholders to participate in this ambitious journey,” he said.
TGDeX will be integrated with Open Data Telangana, the state’s main public data repository. It will collect contributions from government departments, private companies, academic institutions, and other data providers to create a strong AI data ecosystem.
Several key players in Telangana’s AI space, including the Telangana AI Mission (T-AIM), T-Hub, MATH (AI/ML Centre of Excellence at T-Hub), IIT Hyderabad, and IIIT Hyderabad, will play an important role in driving the platform’s growth. TGDeX aims to host over 2,000 AI-ready datasets within the next five years.
Officials believe this initiative positions Telangana as a pioneer in building digital infrastructure to support ethical, inclusive, and high-impact AI development across multiple domains.
