A new AI Innovation Centre launched by Covasant marked an important moment for Telangana as IT and Electronics Minister D Sridhar Babu underlined the state’s rising global presence in technology. The centre was inaugurated in the presence of Covasant CMD CV Subramanyam, the UK Deputy High Commissioner Gareth Wynn Owen, industry leaders and teams from India and the United States.
The Minister highlighted the strong momentum in Global Capability Centre growth across the state. Telangana added 70 GCCs last year and has already crossed 75 this year. The government has now set a target of reaching 100 GCCs in a single year, supported by its focus on job creation and investment inflows.
He praised Covasant Chairman CV Subramanyam as a successful serial entrepreneur with deep technology expertise. He recalled how one of Subramanyam’s earlier ventures grew from 18 employees into a company worth 250 million dollars. He also mentioned their long standing association at a personal and professional level.
Speaking at the event, the Minister said the new centre reflects the strength of Hyderabad’s innovation ecosystem. “Whenever a global capability centre or a product company expands here, it is not just a new opening it is Hyderabad taking another step forward in innovation,” he said.
He added that Telangana is shaping itself into a global innovation hub that brings together qualities seen in Silicon Valley, Shenzhen and Singapore. “This is a city where innovation, engineering depth, industry execution and trust converge,” he said, noting that these strengths make Hyderabad a preferred destination for global firms.
A major part of his address focused on the need to build AI skills. He said emerging technologies are transforming industries and urged professionals to update their capabilities. “With AI, low code and no code systems are transforming the industry. Those who do not reskill risk becoming obsolete,” he cautioned.
He announced that the government will set up an AI Hub and an AI University to support learning in advanced technologies. The hub will provide online global standard training programmes, and discussions are underway with leading institutions including Stanford, Harvard, Yale and universities in the United Kingdom.
Referring to Covasant’s work in agentic AI, he said such advancements will reshape roles and processes across all major sectors. He added that industries such as life sciences, pharmaceuticals, financial services, hospitality and healthcare are already adopting AI to improve productivity and innovation.
