Lucid Motors has introduced a new robotaxi concept called “Lucid Lunar,” presenting the vehicle during its investor day held in New York City. The concept highlights the company’s growing interest in autonomous mobility as it expands beyond electric vehicle manufacturing.
The Lucid Lunar is designed as a 2-seater vehicle with no steering wheel or pedals, signalling a fully autonomous design. According to the company, the concept would be built on the same platform being developed for Lucid’s upcoming mid-size series of electric vehicles.
Interim CEO Marc Winterhoff said Lucid is already “working on” the Lunar and indicated that it could debut after the launch of the company’s mid-size vehicles. However, the company later clarified that there is currently no active development underway for the dedicated robotaxi.
Lucid also revealed that it is close to reaching an agreement with Uber to collaborate on a robotaxi based on one of its upcoming mid-size electric vehicles. Separately, the company is already working with autonomous vehicle firm Nuro to create an autonomous version of the Gravity SUV. That vehicle is expected to launch on Uber’s network in the San Francisco area by the end of this year. Neither Nuro nor Lucid confirmed whether the new vehicle will use Nuro’s technology.
The announcements came toward the end of Lucid’s investor presentation and reflect the company’s broader strategy to build a business around autonomous mobility alongside its electric vehicle sales. During the presentation, Lucid suggested that future robotaxi partnership revenue could potentially exceed the income it earns from licensing its electric vehicle technology.
Lucid also shared plans to generate revenue through its partially autonomous driving system. The company said it intends to introduce monthly subscriptions for DreamDrive Pro beginning in the first half of 2027. The pricing is expected to start at $69 per month for basic driver assistance features and go up to $199 per month for advanced self-driving capability that would not require driver intervention. The company noted that such advanced capability has not yet been developed.
A presentation slide described autonomy subscriptions as “the single biggest software monetization opportunity.” This model is similar to approaches taken by other electric vehicle makers offering subscription-based driving features.
Lucid is also developing an in-cabin AI assistant designed to handle both simple and complex requests. The assistant could perform tasks such as adjusting vehicle settings or suggesting unique travel destinations. A live demonstration during the event did not work as planned, and the company instead showed a recorded demonstration.
Much of the investor event also focused on Lucid’s efforts to reduce manufacturing costs and improve the efficiency of its electric drivetrain. These improvements are considered essential for making the upcoming mid-size vehicles more affordable.
The company said the new mid-size models are expected to start at around $50,000 when the first one launches by the end of this year. Lucid also revealed that two of the upcoming vehicles will be called the Lucid Cosmos and the Lucid Earth, while the name of a third model has not yet been announced.
