Tech industry leaks suggest that Apple may retain the current design language for its upcoming iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max models, while focusing on internal hardware upgrades. The next-generation Pro smartphones are expected to launch later this year with improvements in chipset performance, battery capacity, and camera technology.
According to a post on Weibo by tipster Digital Chat Station, Apple may reuse manufacturing moulds from the previous generation for the iPhone 18 Pro lineup. If accurate, the phones will likely continue to feature the familiar island-shaped display cutout used for the Face ID system.
This means the Dynamic Island design may remain unchanged. The arrangement of the front sensors and the Face ID components is also expected to stay similar to the current generation.
The display size and panel design of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are also tipped to remain similar to those used in the iPhone 17 Pro lineup.
The leak further indicates that Apple’s rumoured under-display Face ID technology may not arrive with the iPhone 18 Pro models. Earlier reports suggested the feature could reduce the display cutout size. However, it is now believed that this technology may be delayed until a later generation, possibly the iPhone 19 Pro series.
Even though the external design could remain largely the same, the devices are expected to receive several internal upgrades. The new models may run on Apple’s next-generation A20 Pro chip, which is reportedly being built using a 2nm manufacturing process.
Battery improvements are also expected, with reports suggesting a capacity of more than 5,000mAh. The camera system could also receive upgrades, including a larger aperture aimed at improving image quality.
Earlier leaks have also suggested that the iPhone 18 Pro series may introduce enhanced AI features for Siri, potentially bringing chatbot-style capabilities. In addition, the smartphones are tipped to include a 24MP front camera, an upgrade from the 18MP unit used in the iPhone 17 series.
