Bumble introduces AI assistant for smarter dating

Bumble has unveiled a new AI assistant designed to improve user engagement and interaction on its dating platform. The assistant uses artificial intelligence to help users create effective opening messages, suggest conversation topics, and provide tips for optimising their profiles.

The AI feature, currently being rolled out to users in stages, aligns with a growing trend in the dating app industry to leverage technology to foster meaningful connections. The launch marks a significant step by Bumble to integrate intelligent tools directly into its core user experience.

HOW THE AI ASSISTANT WORKS

The assistant operates across three key areas. First, through AI-powered messaging, users receive tailored icebreaker suggestions and message prompts based on their own profile and the profile of the person they are contacting. This is designed to reduce the anxiety many users face when initiating conversation.

Second, the tool offers profile optimisation guidance, advising users on improving their bios, selecting the most effective photos, and presenting themselves more authentically and attractively on the platform.

Third, Bumble has built privacy and security safeguards directly into the feature. The AI system does not share personal information without explicit user consent, and all data handling is governed by the company’s existing security framework.

COMPANY STATEMENT

A spokesperson for Bumble said the AI assistant is part of the company’s ongoing commitment to making online dating safer and more engaging. The feature is integrated into the main app, allowing users to benefit from AI-driven guidance seamlessly and without needing to download a separate tool.

The spokesperson added that the rollout reflects Bumble’s broader mission to put women and safety at the centre of the online dating experience, while using emerging technology responsibly.

BACKGROUND

Bumble, founded in 2014 and headquartered in Austin, Texas, has grown to become one of the world’s leading dating platforms. The company has consistently distinguished itself through features designed to give women more control over interactions on the app.

The introduction of an AI assistant follows similar moves by competitors in the online dating space, as platforms increasingly look to artificial intelligence to improve match quality, boost user retention, and reduce harassment and fake profiles.
