Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu highlighted the role of technology in improving governance, calling it a bridge rather than a barrier. He stated that technology enables administrators to make timely decisions and deliver services to citizens in real time, adding that India’s young population can offer these services to the global community.
Mr. Naidu made these remarks while inaugurating the two-day national conference on e-Governance, Viksit Bharat: Civil Service and Digital Transformation, organised by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology in collaboration with the Andhra Pradesh government on Monday, September 22.
Reflecting on his three decades of promoting digital initiatives, the Chief Minister recalled efforts like e-Seva and Mee-Seva. “e-Governance is close to my heart. The Internet revolution has made the world a global village. When Bill Gates visited India in 1995, I presented a PowerPoint on technology adoption. He was impressed that a politician could be so strong in IT,” he said. He added that his efforts helped bring Microsoft’s first development centre outside Seattle to Hyderabad and contributed to the deregulation of India’s telecom sector.
He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, describing him as “the right man at the right place and at the right time,” for creating healthy competition among states to boost technology adoption.
Mr. Naidu highlighted initiatives like the Mana Mitra app, offering 751 government services through WhatsApp. He emphasised emerging technologies like AI, Quantum Computing, and Machine Learning, noting that real-time data collection through satellites, drones, and sensors has improved productivity, reduced costs, and enabled flexible working.
On Quantum Computing, he said, “Although discussed globally since 2023, Andhra Pradesh has taken initiatives to develop it, and India will soon produce and export computers to other nations. We are also working with the Gates Foundation on the Sanjeevani project to deliver health services directly to citizens. The project will expand across the country. India is poised to become the global leader by 2047.”
Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand welcomed the delegates, while DARPG Secretary V. Srinivas said the conference will feature six plenary sessions with 107 speakers from all states and union territories, focusing on promoting Vizag as an IT hub.
