TCS Partners with the Danish Academy of Technical Sciences to Combat Dengue Through Technology and Citizen Engagement

Piloted in Bengaluru, the project can be implemented worldwide to combat outbreaks of dengue fever

TCS will provide data-driven technology support to the program through its pro bono initiative, TCS TECH4HOPE

COPENHAGEN | BENGALURU, March 06, 2025: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) (BSE: 532540, NSE: TCS), a global leader in IT services, consulting, and business solutions, has collaborated with the echo network, a global social innovation initiative hosted by the Danish Academy of Technical Sciences (ATV), to combat  outbreaks of dengue fever and other viral diseases. This collaboration aims to harness digital technology and citizen engagement to address pressing public health challenges.

As part of this initiative, TCS will provide technology support to echo network’s ‘I am OneHealth’ program in Bengaluru, India. Leveraging its TCS TECH4HOPE program – a pro bono initiative that provides technology solutions to non-profit organizations – TCS is driving impactful change by enabling communities to combat dengue through data-driven insights and citizen participation. The echo network is funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation, which supports public health and sustainability worldwide.

Torben Vedel Borchert, Scientific Director, Biotech, Novo Nordisk Foundation, Denmark, said, It is important for us to support public health and sustainability projects globally, and since 2021 we have supported ATV’s collaboration with the echo network in India. We have recently awarded a new grant for the effort in India, and we are excited to see how TCS can add an even greater local impact to the network.”

TCS is at the forefront of this mission, helping local authorities with actionable insights to effectively prevent and control dengue outbreaks. Utilizing an interactive and free WhatsApp-based chatbot, the project engages school and college students to map hyperlocal environmental conditions impacting dengue transmission.

This citizen-generated data is then enriched with TCS’ advanced IT solutions that analyze humidity, temperature, and other location-specific parameters. The integrated data is transformed into real-time insights in collaboration with several Bengaluru-based organizations, contributing to a Vulnerability Index and an innovative Dengue Prevention Dashboard.

Vikram Sharma, Country Head TCS in Denmark said“We are proud to collaborate with ATV and echo network on such an important project which not only brings the latest technology but also the citizens onboard. Through our TCS TECH4HOPE initiatives, we can draw on our own TCS colleagues from around the world to share their expertise pro bono. For this project, our colleagues from Europe as well as India are keenly involved to make it an overall success.”

Dengue, a rapidly growing health concern, is the most common mosquito-borne viral disease in many countries, including India. In 2024, the Bengaluru region alone reported over 14,000 cases. The ‘I am OneHealth’ program in collaboration with the Bengaluru Science and Technology Cluster,  an initiative by the office of Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India of India, unites local communities, academic institutions, and health authorities to fight viral diseases through technology and collective action. This pilot initiative in Bengaluru demonstrates TCS’ commitment to leveraging digital innovation for social good, with plans to replicate the model globally.

By fostering community engagement and providing technological expertise, TCS is committed to empowering societies to combat public health challenges and build resilient communities.
