Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) have officially joined hands to develop India’s own sovereign cloud. The strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), formalized at the Tec-Verse 2025 summit in New Delhi, marks a significant stride towards ensuring full data localization and strengthening the nation’s technological sovereignty.
The core objective of this landmark partnership is to establish an indigenous cloud platform that guarantees all data, servers, and data centers are physically located and operated within India’s borders.
This initiative directly addresses critical concerns around data security, regulatory compliance with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, and aligns seamlessly with the Indian government’s “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” (self-reliant India) vision. By keeping sensitive government and public sector data within national boundaries, the sovereign cloud will minimize reliance on foreign technology providers and enhance national security.
The collaboration extends beyond conventional cloud infrastructure, venturing into advanced technological frontiers. The sovereign cloud project is envisioned as a secure, AI-ready backbone for India’s ambitious digital transformation goals, enabling robust digital public infrastructure and secure citizen services.
Leaders from both organizations, including D Ethirajan, Magesh E, and Pramod P J from C-DAC, emphasized the long-term vision of this collaboration. C-DAC will contribute its core strengths in indigenous research and development, while TCS will leverage its extensive market reach and industry-leading experience in large-scale digital platforms to bring these homegrown innovations to a wider audience.
This strategic alliance between two of India’s prominent technology entities is set to accelerate the nation’s journey towards technological sovereignty, driving innovation, securing critical data, and laying a robust foundation for India’s digital future.
