TCS strengthens 18-year partnership with ABB to modernise global IT operations

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a global leader in IT services, consulting, and business solutions, has expanded its long-standing partnership with ABB, a global leader in electrification and automation. The collaboration, which has been ongoing for 18 years, will now focus on modernising ABB’s global hosting operations, simplifying its IT landscape, and enhancing its digital foundation to boost resilience and innovation.

As part of this multi-year agreement, TCS will implement ABB’s Future Hosting Model, a next-generation modular IT infrastructure designed to streamline systems and drive operational efficiency. This model will use TCS’s AI-powered Zero Ops framework to enable predictive operations, quicker service restoration, and continuous security assurance. The initiative is a key step towards realising ABB’s Core Platform vision, which focuses on large-scale modernisation, self-service and automation, cloud agility, and resilience.

Alec Joannou, Group CIO of ABB, said, “Our extended partnership with TCS strengthens ABB’s ability to deliver value to customers. By modernising our hosting operations, we’re creating a foundation for agility, faster innovation, and improved reliability across the business.”

TCS’ AI framework will ensure business continuity and high-quality service delivery across ABB’s global operations while minimising human intervention. ABB aims to transform its hosting landscape using advanced technologies to enhance flexibility, quality, and cost efficiency in line with its evolving business demands.

Anupam Singhal, President of Manufacturing at TCS, said, “TCS has been a trusted partner in ABB’s transformation journey for over 18 years. This latest milestone is not just a testament to our enduring collaboration, but a bold step towards reimagining ABB’s hosting landscape with a modular, future-ready architecture. At the core of this engagement lies a shared vision: technology must serve a higher purpose – to empower people, enhance agility, and drive intelligent, responsible operations.”

TCS’s industry expertise, combined with ABB’s technology platforms and focus on security, will build a resilient and future-ready digital foundation. TCS’s managed services platform will also provide flexibility for ABB’s business integration needs across mergers, acquisitions, and carve-outs. With a cloud-first, data-driven governance approach, TCS aims to help ABB lower its carbon footprint.

Peter Alkema, Global Head of IS Technology and Platforms at ABB, said, “ABB is committed to building a modular, scalable hosting service that drives agility and innovation. With TCS as our strategic partner, the Future Hosting Model strengthens this commitment and ensures operational excellence.”
