Tata Power Renewable Energy to invest ₹6,675 crore in 10 GW solar manufacturing unit in Andhra Pradesh

Strengthening India’s push for domestic solar manufacturing, a major renewable energy investment is set to take shape in southern India.

Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd will establish a greenfield 10 GW ingot and wafer manufacturing facility in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, with an investment of ₹6,675 crore. State government officials said the project will be the largest ingot and wafer manufacturing facility in the country.

The proposal has been approved by the State Investment Promotion Board, chaired by Chandrababu Naidu. The facility will come up at the IFFCO Kisan Special Economic Zone, where the Andhra Pradesh government has allocated 200 acres of land. This includes 120 acres for the initial phase and 80 acres reserved for future expansion.

The ingots and wafers produced at the facility are key components used in solar cells, solar modules, and semiconductor applications. Officials said the project aligns with the Government of India’s objective to strengthen domestic manufacturing and reduce dependence on imports for strategic components.

The project is expected to create around 1,000 direct jobs, along with substantial indirect employment during the construction phase and through allied activities. As part of its clean energy strategy, Tata Power Renewable Energy will also set up a 200 MW captive green power plant to supply renewable energy to the manufacturing unit.

According to officials, Andhra Pradesh’s availability of ready-to-use industrial land, strong infrastructure, port connectivity, and assured access to green power played a crucial role in attracting this investment. Nellore is fast emerging as a solar manufacturing hub, with several major renewable energy companies already planning or executing large-scale projects in the region.

Welcoming the development, IT and Electronics Minister Nara Lokesh said, “Andhra Pradesh is proud to host yet another landmark investment from the Tata Group. This project is a strong vote of confidence in our state’s policy stability, infrastructure readiness, and commitment to clean energy manufacturing. It will create high-quality jobs, strengthen our solar manufacturing ecosystem, and contribute meaningfully to India’s energy transition.”

This investment marks Tata Power Renewable Energy’s first manufacturing project in Andhra Pradesh under its broader renewable energy expansion plans. The state government said it remains focused on enabling world-class manufacturing through quick approvals, plug-and-play infrastructure, and a pro-industry policy framework, positioning Andhra Pradesh at the forefront of India’s renewable energy and advanced manufacturing growth.
